Bahia Maguey

by Erin May

Bahia Maguey is the perfect beach to spend the day. Whether it be relaxing on the fine white sand or swimming in the clear, warm Pacific waters, this is one beach you don’t want to miss. The name Maguey is one of the most representative plants in Mexican culture and is the plant used to make agave tequila and mezcal, two of the country’s traditional drinks.

About 500 meters in length, Bahia Maguey is located southwest of Santa Cruz, Huatulco. Accessible by boat and land this beach is ideal for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving. It is enclosed by small hills and is protected by rock formations resulting in calm waters. There is a great diving site with walls and caves to explore the beautiful marine life of these warm

Pacific waters. Enjoy exploring the many tropical fish of various colors in the coral reef that lies along the rocks.

Forget your snorkel gear? No problem, there are many places to rent snorkeling equipment including life jackets, masks, fins and snorkels.

During your visit to Bahia Maguey you can enjoy sipping cervezas and coconut drinks under palapa covered restaurants. These beachside restaurants also offer a delicious array of fresh seafood including octopus, shrimp, lobster, conch and grilled fish.

To get to there by car head South on the road to Playa La Entrega from Santa Cruz for approximately 3 kilometers. Another option to get to this beach is to hire the service of boats in Santa Cruz Huatulco.
