ViewPoint – Area Attractions

by George Daniel Leis

Viewpoint owners will be spoiled with an abundance of things to do and see both in Puerto Angel and the Huatulco region.

Puerto Angel

On the doorstep of Viewpoint is Puerto Angel, a breathtaking stretch of 11 beaches laid out across this quiet fishing and surfing community. Puerto Angel has become a world-class surfing area, and also has beaches with waters that are more moderate, optimum for swimming and snorkeling.

Other distinct destinations include the National Mexican Turtle Center, and nude beach Playa del Amor. More than anything else, however, Puerto Angel is the ideal place to retreat to a simpler time and slower pace.

Fishing is excellent in the area, and fisherman regularly bring in tuna, red snapper and sailfish, as well as lobster and octopus. The small beachfront restaurants all serve delicious, fresh seafood prepared just as you like it. Watch the boats come in while enjoying a drink and fresh seafood . . . this is the Puerto Angel experience.

Puerto Angel also boasts a highly developed educational system with its Universidad Del Mar campus.  Majors include: Marine Biology, Oceanography, Aquiculture, Environmental Engineering and many others.  For those wishing to specialize and continue through the academic ranks, there are post-graduate Master’s degree’s as well as Ph.D studies offered in Marine Ecology.

If you are looking to brush up on your Spanish speaking skills, the Universidad Del Mar is also a great place to learn more.

Beaches of Puerto Angel

There are so many beaches to explore in Puerto Angel and area. Each beach offers it’s own personality and charm. You will be amazed at the fascinating eco-tourism, beautiful landscape, delicious and fresh seafood, and warm Mexican culture the Oaxaca coast has to offer. Check out our beaches page for more information.

Huatulco

Viewpoint owners looking for more excitement can take advantage of all manner of outdoor activities in Huatulco. Outdoor activities in the Huatulco region are virtually limitless, and include: golfing 18 holes at the gorgeous and challenging seaside course in Tangolunda; tackling the 4-class rapids at Rio Copalita; exploring the incredible diversity of sea life while scuba diving or snorkeling; taking to the seas aboard a yacht or sailboat; riding a horse through deserted beaches and jungle; parasailing Tangolunda Bay; trying a traditional Zapotecas mud bath; bird watching deep in the jungle; deep-sea fishing; racing through an ATV jungle tours; or dancing the day away aboard a catamaran. And opening soon, a new “ecoarcheological” park in Punta Celest promises to educate and entertain.
